In a proactive measure ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the District Collector and District Election Officer, Mr. Abhijeet Singh, convened a meeting of Electoral Expenditure Monitoring Units. Emphasising the need for transparent and peaceful elections, he directed the Election Commission’s vigilant scrutiny of all activities, including unauthorised transportation of cash, jewellery, and liquor.
The meeting, held at the District Office, focused on coordinating efforts with the Police and Forest Departments to monitor inter-state and intra-district borders. Stringent surveillance measures were outlined, including continuous patrolling by Flying Squads along main routes and internal areas adjacent to district borders.
Moreover, instructions were issued to ensure daily reporting by Static Surveillance Teams (SST) and Video Recording of all activities at checkpoints. Additionally, the Excise Department was directed to monitor illegal alcohol sales and verify stock registers for suspicious transactions.
To curb illicit transactions, it was mandated that any cash or valuables exceeding INR 50,000 must be accompanied by valid documentation. Mr. Singh stressed the importance of citizens carrying proper documentation to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
Furthermore, stringent measures were put in place to regulate mass gatherings and events, with approval required from relevant authorities to prevent political exploitation. The District Election Officer emphasized that event approvals would be granted only after thorough examination by the Area Revenue Officer.
Present at the meeting were various officials, including the District Forest Officer, Deputy Collector, Assistant Superintendent of Police, and Assistant District Election Officer, among others.
This proactive approach aims to ensure fair and transparent elections while maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
