Honoring the Spirit of Unity: Mahasamund Hosts the National Unity Run

In a vibrant celebration of India’s National Unity Day, Mahasamund’s district administration and the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare organized a “Unity Run” on October 29, 2024, to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Known as the Iron Man of India, Patel played an instrumental role in uniting the country, and this year’s event aimed to reflect his spirit of national harmony.

A Symbolic Run Through Mahasamund’s Landmarks

The event commenced at 7:45 a.m. at the Government Model Higher Secondary School in Mahasamund. The run traced a route through the city’s iconic landmarks, including Baronda Chowk, Shastri Chowk, Satbahiniya Chowk, Gandhi Chowk, and Nehru Chowk, culminating back at the starting point. Participants from various backgrounds—students, government officials, community leaders, athletes, and local citizens—came together, reflecting a deep sense of unity and patriotism.

Launching the Run: Messages of Unity and Harmony

Municipal Chairperson Mrs. Rashi Mahilang, along with Collector Mr. Vinay Kumar Langeh, inaugurated the Unity Run by waving the ceremonial green flag. Addressing the crowd, Mrs. Mahilang emphasized the significance of national unity and led participants in an oath of harmony, encouraging every citizen to contribute to a united and prosperous nation.

With banners and flags held high, participants chanted slogans in honor of Patel’s legacy. Representing various organizations, including the Scouts & Guides, NCC, and local educational institutions, they exemplified community solidarity, underscoring the importance of unity in diversity.

The Efforts Behind the Event: A Community United

The Unity Run was a combined effort of the local administration, education and health departments, law enforcement, and community groups. Officials such as District Advisor of Bharat Scouts & Guides Mr. Daulat Lal Chandrakar, Revenue Sub-Divisional Officer Mr. Harishankar Paikra, and District Education Officer Mr. Mohan Rao Sawant were among the many contributors who helped organize this event. Through their efforts, Mahasamund’s Unity Run serves as a testament to community involvement and shared values.

Fostering Unity for Future Generations

The National Unity Run in Mahasamund was more than a celebration; it was a powerful reminder of the role each individual plays in strengthening the social fabric. As participants took the unity oath, they pledged to uphold harmony and inclusivity—qualities that Patel championed for a united India.
