The film industry continues to grieve the loss of Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24. Among those mourning him is his longtime co-star and close friend Rakesh Bedi.In a heartfelt conversation, the veteran actor reflected on his decades-long association with the legendary star and the kind of affection that made Dharmendra unforgettable—not just as an artist, but as a human being.Rakesh and Dharmendra first worked together decades ago and went on to collaborate on several films, including the 1987 hit Dadagiri. Their final project together was Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and Rakesh shared with NDTV that even during the shoot of their last film, Dharmendra’s warmth never faded.“He cared for everyone; in 15 minutes, he made you feel like his own”Calling Dharmendra “the kind of mad artist that no longer exists,” Rakesh described him as someone who cared deeply for every member of the unit. He recalled that even if someone spent just a few minutes with Dharmendra, they would instantly feel like family—such was the intimacy and affection he radiated on set. According to Rakesh, Dharmendra’s concern for people around him was genuine, effortless, and constant.

A birthday moment that became a lifelong memory

One of Rakesh’s most cherished memories took place during the shoot of TBMAUJ, which coincided with his birthday. Dharmendra insisted on arranging the cake himself, even when the crew offered to handle it.“We cut it together. He fed me, and I fed him,” Rakesh recalled, his voice filled with emotion.

A farewell marked with prayers and love

As the industry continues to mourn, Dharmendra’s family hosted a special prayer meet in Mumbai, attended by close friends, colleagues, and well-wishers. Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol organised the ceremony, while Hema Malini held a Gita path at her residence.
