Gov. Tim Walz and Minnesota AG Keith Ellison will testify before Congress

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and state Attorney General Keith Ellison will testify March 4 before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

The announcement of their joint appearance by by Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) is the latest development in his panel’s investigation into welfare fraud in Minnesota, a scandal that has become a rallying cry for Republicans amid the administration’s highly controversial immigration operation in Minneapolis.

“We look forward to questioning Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison under oath about this scandal to ensure transparency and accountability for the American people, and to advance solutions to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse and impose stronger penalties on those who defraud taxpayers,” Comer, who threatened to subpoena both men earlier this month, said in a statement.

Walz, the 2024 Democratic nominee for vice president who recently announced he would not seek reelection to continue serving as his state’s chief executive, last testified before Comer’s panel this past June alongside other Democratic governors about their cooperation with federal immigration enforcement activities.

Ellison is a former Democratic member of Congress.
