Gulshan Devaiah has once again proven he isn’t afraid to speak his mind. In a fiery, no-filter conversation, the actor addressed the long-running ‘insider vs outsider’ debate—one that resurfaces every time Bollywood faces a fresh wave of nepotism outrage.
Calls nepotism complaints ‘trivial nonsense’, urges actors to ‘stop cribbing’
Known for his candour, Gulshan did not hold back as he criticised actors who complain about losing work to industry insiders.“Everybody has their advantages. We conveniently forget our own advantage and privilege—the privilege we have over millions of people who are less privileged—and we start crying about those who are more privileged than us,” Gulshan told IANS. “It is rubbish. I am sick and tired of it. Stop complaining. I am not saying put up with injustice, but stop cribbing about this kind of trivial nonsense and put in the work.”
Says showbiz is “unfair by nature”
Calling showbiz “inherently unfair, competitive and unpredictable,” the actor said this brutal truth is the base on which the industry stands.“Accept the nature of the business. That is the nature of the business. Are you prepared for it? Only then come to the industry; otherwise, get lost. Do something else,” he said bluntly.
Urges humility over entitlement
Gulshan further stressed that humility and consistent effort are the only way forward, not entitlement.“Who the hell are you to think that you deserve better?” he asked. “Keep your head down, work, and hope for the best. There are so many things you can do instead of whining and cribbing and this nepotism nonsense. It never bothers me, and it should never bother anybody.” Meanwhile, Gulshan is currently earning praise for his latest release, Perfect Family, which stars Girija Oak opposite him and explores the mental-health stigma embedded in many Indian households. The show, celebrated for its sensitive treatment and powerful performances, also features Seema Pahwa, Manoj Pahwa, and Neha Dhupia.Produced by Pankaj Tripathi and Ajay Rai and directed by Sachin Pathak, the series continues to draw acclaim from critics and audiences alike.
