On February 17, 2026, the film industry mourned the loss of the legendary Pravina Deshpande at the age of 60, after a courageous fight against cancer. Revered for her memorable roles in both Marathi and Hindi films like ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’ and ‘Ek Villain,’ she also graced television screens with her presence in ‘Karam Apnaa Apnaa’.

Veteran actress Pravina Deshpande passed away at the age of 60 on February 17. She was battling cancer at the time of passing. Her family confirmed her demise through a social media post, which read, “It is with great sadness that we inform you that Mrs Pravina Deshpande has left for her heavenly abode on 17th February 2026. Cremation will be held on 17th February at 3:00 pm. Location: Hindu Crematorium, Chakala Parsiwada, Andheri East.

Who was Pravina Deshpande?

Born in 1965, Pravina Deshpande worked in the Marathi as well as the Hindi film industry. She also featured in TV shows such as ‘Ghar Ek Mandir’, ‘Karam Apnaa Apnaa’ (2006), and ‘Kulfi Kumar Bajewala’ (2018). In Hindi films, she featured in ‘Mumbai Meri Jaan’ (2008), ‘Ready’ (2011), ‘Bombay Talkies’ (2013), ‘D-Day’ (2013), ‘Monsoon Shootout’ (2013), ‘Ek Villain’ (2014), ‘Crazy Cukkad Family’ (2015), ‘Gabbar Is Back’ (2015), ‘Aligarh’ (2015), ‘Gaon’ (2018), ‘Blackmail’ (2018), ‘Golak Bugni Bank Te Batua’ (2018), ‘Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran’ (2018), ‘Jalebi’ (2018), and ‘Hacked’ (2020).The actress was last seen in Neeraj Pandey’s web series ‘Taskaree’, starring Emraan Hashmi in the lead. It premiered on an OTT platform in January this year.The veteran actress was an active member of the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) since 2008.

Pravina Deshpande on her cancer diagnosis

Back in 2024, in an interaction with ETimes, Pravina Deshpande had opened up about her cancer diagnosis. She shared, “It began with minor skin eruptions and gradually spread. I was eventually diagnosed with multiple myeloma in October 2019. Despite the diagnosis, the prognosis was positive, offering the hope of leading a normal life after the treatment. Since I had no major complaints other than declining stamina, I continued working.Talking about her family’s support, she said, “During my 17 days in isolation for the (bone marrow) transplant, my husband (Aniruddha Deshpande), two sons, daughter-in-law, and close relatives never let me feel alone. They took turns sitting in the guest room, offering moral support through video calls. Their presence gave me the strength to believe in my recovery. My niece even cut her long hair, and my nephew went bald in my solidarity. Having a strong support system is crucial in such times.”

The official statement on social media was undersigned by Aniruddha, Abhimanyu, Ruchira, and Veer Deshpande. Her last rites were conducted on the same day she passed away in Mumbai. Reportedly, the actress was survived by her husband and two children.The Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) mourned the demise of the veteran actress. An official post was dropped on its social media account about the same. It read, “CINTAA expresses its condolences on the demise of Pravina Deshpande ji (member since 2008). #cintaa #condolence #restinpeace #rip.”
