On Tuesday, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu, who are collaborating on the film Varanasi, engaging in a heated physical altercation. Sharing the clip, RGV captioned it, “CINEMA IS DEAD.”

At first, the clip might convince someone that SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu have gotten into a real fight. In reality, the footage is entirely AI-generated. Ram Gopal Varma used it to make a statement about the growing influence of artificial intelligence in cinema, which is why he captioned it, “cinema is dead.”

Several users shared their thoughts on the viral clip. One netizen remarked, “Not Cinema .. Rather Directors, Producers, Artists .. etc are dead .. Look at the positive side .. Anyone can make a movie .. Wow .. Got a brilliant script go make a movie .. Wanna try a scene before execution try it with AI first and why not (sic).” Another user reacted by saying, “We enjoyed a lot sir, These expressions of MB are what we have been missing from his movies. Thank you AI (sic).” A third person offered a broader view, writing, “The content landscape is definitely transforming. While traditional cinema faces challenges, the bar for quality storytelling hasn’t dropped. If anything, audiences now have more choices and expect better narratives. Meanwhile, ‘Varanasi’, featuring Priyanka Chopra alongside Mahesh Babu, is scheduled to hit theatres on April 7, 2027. Originally made in Telugu, the film will also be dubbed and released in multiple languages, including Hindi. A few months back, the makers unveiled its first look at a grand event held in Hyderabad.
