Imtiaz Ali‘s ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’, featuring A.R. Rahman’s score, unfolds as a romance spanning generations amid the 1947 Partition. The project launched today, March 13, with a striking poster and teaser.
‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ teaser highlights
The teaser reveals a grand, cross-generational romantic drama unfolding against the 1947 Partition backdrop. Directed by Imtiaz Ali and scored by A.R. Rahman, it delivers an epic narrative of love, memory, and yearning. It centers on an elderly man (Naseeruddin Shah) recounting a “romantic story” held for 78 years. His grandson (Diljit Dosanjh) listens by his bedside to music that whisks viewers back to a pre-Partition time, blending nostalgia with today’s emotions. It highlights the clash of two eras: lush green wheat fields, vintage trains, and lavish old mansions from the past, juxtaposed with tender modern scenes where the grandson revives memories using photos and vintage films.
‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ cast and theme
Diljit portrays the grandson and probably his grandfather’s younger version in flashbacks. Sharvari stars as the love interest from the past, while Vedang Raina enriches the period elements. Naseeruddin Shah grounds the story with his poignant performance. At its core, ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ delves into a Partition-era promise showing love defies borders and time. The teaser closes on a humorous note, with Diljit urging viewers to “like, comment, and subscribe” if they made it through Partition. The title ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ captures that dual literal and heartfelt vow from 1947. The film is set to release on June 12, 2026.
