Veteran Bollywood star Meenakshi Sheshadri known for movies like ‘Hero’, ‘Damini’ and ‘Ghatak’, recently left fans surprised as she recreated her song ‘Hey You’ from ‘Shahenshah’ co-starring Amitabh Bachchan. The recently shared reel has gone viral and earned admiration from fans. However, some trolls also made some ageist remarks at the actress but fans were quick to defend her and shut them down. The song, which also featured Amrish Puri, was a standout in ‘Shahenshah’, a film that later achieved cult status and became a defining moment in Bachchan’s career. In her new reel, Meenakshi is seen dancing in a striking red off-shoulder corset dress in the rain, with her expressions and movements evoking memories of her 1980s on-screen charm.Reflecting on the song’s legacy, Meenakshi shared in her caption, “Hey You… One of the first of the few item songs I performed in my career. Shahenshah marked my first on screen role with my favorite actor Amitabh Bachchan. Hey you, had all the masala. A great song sung by the one and only Asha Bhosle, great set, fabulous outfits, and the glamorous choreography of Kamal Master.”She further revealed how the reel came together and said, “When I decided to revisit this song for a reel we shifted the location outdoors. We shot this song amidst thunderous rain showers in Pune. Even today this song is ever fresh and appealing! My Choreographer Swara is steeped deep in BharatNatyam but nevertheless excels in several other genres. Fahim and his team have really shown their versatility by embracing dance videography completely. Let us see if we can top our recent viral reels ‘Tota mere Tota’. ‘Don’t say no’. Hey You! Watch out for this one!” While many applauded her confidence and timeless appeal, a section of social media users posted ageist comments. One wrote, “Abhi umar ho gayee madam char dham yatra kar lo abhi hae yu,” while another added, “Pata nahi budhape mai matti paleet karne aa jate hai, koi samjhao time gaya ab.”However, Meenakshi chose to rise above the negativity, interacting only with encouraging comments. Admirers flooded the post with praise, calling her “timeless” and celebrating her enduring charisma. One fan commented, “Age is just a number but your moves are still vibrant,” while another wrote, “Once a star, always a star.” The actor responded with emojis like a smile, thumbs up, and folded hands, acknowledging the love while ignoring the trolls.Released in 1988, ‘Shahenshah’ went on to become a major commercial hit and a pop culture landmark. It further cemented Amitabh Bachchan’s superstar image, especially with his famous line, “Rishtey mein toh hum tumhare baap lagte hain.” Known for its stylised action, dramatic storytelling, and memorable soundtrack, the film continues to hold a special place among fans, with songs like Tota Mere Tota and Don’t Say No still fondly remembered. After stepping away from Bollywood after ‘Ghatak’, she relocated to the United States, where she now runs a dance school. Despite her distance from films, she remains connected with her audience through social media, often revisiting her memorable performances.
