Karan Johar turned a fan moment into a headline on Tuesday when he shared photos with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway on Instagram and revealed just how much the meeting meant to him. The filmmaker said he has watched ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ “no less than 47 times” and called Streep a major influence on his understanding of performance. Johar posted the pictures on his official Instagram account after meeting Streep and Hathaway during the rollout for ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’. In his caption, he wrote, “This is not a caption. This is a confession. I am singularly obsessed and inspired by the unmatchable brilliance of Meryl Streep. In many ways she has been my guru in the art of acting & portraying characters across cinema!!”
He then explained how deeply the 2006 film has stayed with him. “I have watched ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ no less than 47 times. I have quoted it at dinner tables, in edit suites and in board meetings (no kidding!)” Johar added that meeting the stars in person left him shaken. “So when I tell you that standing next to HER & them today, I felt the ground shift, please believe me. I tried very hard to be calm and composed, but here’s another confession – my knees were RATTLING!”

Johar also praised the warmth of both actors. “They were both so warm and welcoming. This image is going in my will. Stay tuned; there’s so much more…because I had a chat with the favourites of the season. OH, and one more thing…that’s all.”The original ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ followed aspiring journalist Andy Sachs as she entered the high-pressure world of fashion publishing under Miranda Priestly. The film became a box office hit and earned major awards attention, including an Oscar nomination for Streep. According to studio updates around the sequel, ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ features returning stars and new cast members including Simone Ashley, Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, and B.J. Novak. The film is backed by 20th Century Studios and Wendy Finerman Productions and is set for a May 1, 2026 theatrical release. Johar’s most recent directorial feature remains 2023’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’.
