Ravi Kishan has strongly backed the success of Aditya Dhar‘s Dhurandhar franchise starring Ranveer Singh, calling it a “wake-up call” for the film industry while dismissing criticism labelling it as propaganda. In a recent conversation, the actor spoke about the film’s impact, its reception, and why he believes it marks the arrival of a “new cinema”.
‘It’s not just a film… it’s a mirror to society’
Praising the film, Ravi Kishan told ABP Live, “Dhurandhar is a big eye-opener for new-age cinema. It’s not just a film—it’s a truth. It has come as a mirror to society.”He added, “It shows what happened in the past, the kind of conspiracies that take place in the country—even by people living within it.”Lauding its craft, he said, “This truth has been presented with strong editing, powerful background score, and intense performances—full of energy and madness.”
‘This is not propaganda’
Reacting to the debate around the film, he said, “It’s unfortunate that people are calling it propaganda. This is not propaganda—it’s a film.”Crediting the story’s origin, he added, “A young filmmaker, a Kashmiri Pandit (Aditya Dhar), has beautifully portrayed his pain and patriotism.”He also praised Ranveer Singh and the team, saying, “Ranveer Singh and the entire team have put their heart and soul into it.”Taking a dig at critics, he remarked, “If you are weak, don’t try to pull down someone else’s success. Look at your own shortcomings and create something new.”
‘It’s a revolution’
Speaking about the film’s reach, Ravi Kishan said, “This is a revolution. I’ve worked in Telugu cinema too, but for the first time I’ve seen Hindi films running housefull in Andhra and Tamil Nadu like this.”He added, “Even in Pakistan, people are talking about Dhurandhar in interviews. They are watching it secretly—even pirated versions are trending.”According to him, “The South industry has embraced the film wholeheartedly. Genuine filmmakers have welcomed it. It’s creating history.”
‘A new cinema has been born’
Calling it a turning point, he said, “This is a wake-up call. A new cinema has been born—a new era of filmmaking has begun.”He explained, “The key is how you present truth with entertainment. Dhurandhar has achieved that balance beautifully.”He also praised filmmaker Aditya Dhar, saying, “Every 20 years, a filmmaker comes along who changes cinema. I welcome him.”
