Three held for ‘sacrilegious act’ in Doda

JAMMU: Police arrested three persons for an alleged sacrilegious act in Jammu’s Doda district.“On Dec 18 night, information was received at Doda police station regarding the alleged slaughter of a bovine animal by certain persons and the transportation of meat towards for illegal sale,” police said.Cops identified the suspects as Farooq Ahmed, Mohammad Shafi and Mohammad Yaseen. They said the suspects, along with some other unidentified individuals, allegedly committed the act with criminal intent that had the potential to hurt religious sentiments and disturb the area’s peaceful atmosphere.A police team raided the spot and arrested all three accused. The meat was seized and sent for forensic testing. An FIR was registered under sections 299 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) and 3(5) (common intention) of BNS at Doda thana. Further investigation is underway and efforts are on to identify and apprehend the other suspects.
