Donations pour in from across globe for Dipu Das's family

KOLKATA: A day after a group of minority community members in Bangladesh met the family of Dipu Chandra Das – a Hindu man who was lynched by a mob at Mymensingh – and posted about their plight on social media, donations from India and other countries, including US and Singapore, poured in for his impoverished family, pushed to the brink after his death. On Monday, minority community members in Bangladesh opened a bank account for the family after receiving queries on social media about how to provide financial help. Donations started coming in by evening. “We have shared the bank account number on our social media handles with a plea to help the family. We are not keeping track of donations now. We heard lakhs have been donated from across the world,” said Kushal Baran Chakraborty, a Sanskrit professor at Chittagong University who met the family.
