Neena Gupta reveals why she bonds better with younger actors, recalls co-star taking her spot on set: ‘My generation actors have ego problems and insecurities’

Neena Gupta has opened up about why she prefers working with younger actors, saying she finds it easier to bond with performers from the new generation than with actors from her own age group. The veteran actor cited ego and insecurity as reasons for finding collaborations with some of her contemporaries difficult. The actor also recalled an uncomfortable incident from an earlier shoot when a fellow performer allegedly pulled her out of the camera frame to get more visibility.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Neena Gupta explained why she feels more comfortable around younger co-stars. She said she does not feel a significant age gap while working with them and finds their approach to be more relaxed.“I get along so well with this younger generation. Lagta hi nahi ki main inse bahut badi hoon (I don’t feel like I am much older than them). When I work with (actors of) my generation, bahut taqleef hoti hai (it is very difficult),” she said.According to Neena, ego and insecurity can sometimes make working with actors from her generation challenging.

The ‘Badhaai Ho’ actor went on to recall an incident that has stayed with her. She alleged that a co-star once physically moved her out of the frame after realising that he was not sufficiently visible on camera.“They have so much ego. Once during a shoot, this actor was standing behind me, and he thought he wasn’t visible (in the frame). So he pulled me back and took my spot. This is how it is. They have ego problems and insecurities,” Neena recalled.She further explained that she feels younger actors are less likely to take casual comments or professional disagreements personally.“They take offence to anything. They take it very personally. With these people (her co-stars in Chumbak), I can say anything to them, and they don’t mind. So I always prefer working with younger actors,” she added.
