NEW DELHI: An FIR has been registered against five people, including Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, over alleged irregularities in the use of Hajj Committee land.The FIR has been registered under charges of fraud, criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.The Vigilance Department has named former Hajj Committee chairman Azam Khan and two former secretaries in its probe into the alleged irregularities.The proprietor of Amish Developers and two others have also been named as accused in the case.

The allegations state that regulations were bypassed during the land sale to benefit a private firm.A Vigilance Department probe found that the alleged irregularities caused a revenue loss of Rs 2,08,95,000 to the Hajj Committee.Khan, a prominent Samajwadi Party leader from Rampur, was first jailed in February 2020 after surrendering in a forgery case. He was later shifted to Sitapur jail, while his wife and son, who were also booked in cases, were released earlier.According to police records, Khan has been named as an accused in 111 criminal cases, including those related to forgery and land encroachment. Final reports have been filed in seven cases, one case resulted in his discharge, and nine were withdrawn by the Samajwadi Party government. He was convicted in six cases but has since secured bail in all of them. The remaining cases are still under trial.One of the prominent cases against Khan is the Quality Bar land case, in which he was accused of misusing his position as cabinet minister in 2013 to facilitate the allotment of land to a family member.
