NHRC in collab with MEA to organise on capacity building programme on human rights for functionaries of Global South
NHRC and MEA to hold six-day ITEC capacity building programme on human rights for 41 functionaries from 15 Global South NHRIs from Sept 14.

NEW DELHI: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), is organising a six-day Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) executive capacity building programme on human rights for senior-level functionaries of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) of the Global South. It will be held from Sept 14 to 19 in Delhi.The programme will be inaugurated by the Chairperson of NHRC, India Justice V. Ramasubramanian. “The programme aims to strengthen the capacities of participating NHRIs and facilitate the exchange of experiences and good practices, with a view to promoting cooperation in the advancement and protection of human rights in their respective countries,” the Commission said in a statement.The customised programme has been developed based on the needs of participating NHRIs and the feedback received during the four previous ITEC capacity-building programmes organised by the Commission. Forty-one senior-level functionaries from 15 NHRIs are expected to attend.The NHRC said that the programme will cover themes including the development of international human rights framework, contemporary human rights issues, human rights and business, impact of new technology on human rights and sustainable development.Participants will also gain insights into NHRC, India’s functioning, including its complaint management and investigation mechanisms, in the context of global human rights discourse.Drawing on NHRC, India’s experience of over three decades, the programme seeks to promote mutual learning and meaningful collaboration among NHRIs for advocacy, enforcement and institutional strengthening across the Global South.
