‘People who rejected me are calling now’: ‘Hanuman Ansh’ composer on life after film’s succes

Hanuman Ansh, made on a modest budget of Rs 2 crore, has emerged as one of the biggest surprise hits at the box office this year. Despite opening to a mere Rs 10 lakh, the film has gone on to earn crores daily and has now crossed the Rs 200 crore mark in India. Alongside its box office run, the film’s music has also taken over social media, with countless reels and videos built around its songs. In conversation with Hindustan Times, music composer Dhirendra Mulkalwar spoke about how opportunities are now coming from the same industry that once turned him away.

Composer calls the success a miracle

Reflecting on ‘Hanuman Ansh’s massive Rs 200 crore collection, music composer Dhirendra Mulkalwar admitted that the team is still coming to terms with it. He said, “This is like a miracle for us. We still don’t know how to react to it. I think we have surrendered ourselves and are seeing it as a blessing from Babji, actually.”

Life after the film’s success

With ‘Hanuman Ansh’ now a certified hit, Dhirendra shared how his professional life has transformed almost overnight. He said, “Phone calls are coming in with people congratulating me. I am getting some offers and am in talks for some of them. I am very hopeful. Before Hanuman Ansh, I was unsure whether I would be able to make a career in films, but Baba Ji has given me such a big success. Now I have left it all to him. I am getting calls from people who had rejected me before. So, I am very positive and hopeful.”

Role of social media in the film’s rise

Speaking about how the film gained momentum despite a shrinking number of screens, Dhirendra credited social media and grassroots promotion. He said, “In the second week, when our screens were reduced to just 30, Vishal and the entire team travelled from city to city in their cars, from Mumbai to Surat and then to Delhi, to promote the film.”He added, “On social media, people could see that those coming out after watching the film had tears in their eyes. So, all of this happened organically. Social media played a very big role in the upward trend we saw in the box office collections and the number of screens increasing.”
