Delhi high court seeks government, makers' reply on gangster series

NEW DELHI: Delhi high court has sought the response of the Centre and the producers of web series ‘U’, which is reportedly based on the life of slain gangster Vikas Dubey, on a plea by his wife to stop its release. Justice Sachin Datta, in an order earlier this week, refused to stay the release of the web series, saying the court would hear the parties before taking a decision. Dubey’s wife has stated in her petition that no consent was ever sought or obtained for portraying identifiable characters, connected with her and her family. The plea says the series sensationalises and fictionalises deeply private aspects of her life, including incidents within the marital home and events following her husband’s death, resulting in a grave invasion of her privacy, dignity and reputation, which are protected under Article 21 of the Constitution.
