The 33-year-old has been in jail since December last year for allegedly stabbing his parents to death. Since then, multiple reports have shared that Reiner has attempted to access the trust fund that Rob set up; however, he has been unable to access the money because of the ongoing case. In a new update, filings revealed that he still has not received any monetary help from the trust fund.Here’s what we know so far about the case.
Nick Reiner has not received money from trust fund
Since his time in custody since last year, there have been multiple reports of Reiner filing for an appeal to access the trust fund for legal fees. PEOPLE reported that since then, Nick has not been able to get access to any of the money. Awaiting trial for the death of his parents, Nick has not received “even USD 5 for the jail commissary.”The Nick Reiner Children’s Trust, which was established on December 2, 1993. The successor trustee Jodi Pais Montgomery and former trustee Paul R Kanin have filed objections to his continuous requests to access the trust fund which is reportedly worth USD 1.6 million.In the new filing on September 17, Reiner’s attorney stated that he has not been able to get access to basic amenities in jail or to even hire private defence counsel. They wrote in the filing, “In the meantime, Nick still has not been able to access even USD 5 from his trust to buy basic subsistence items from the jail commissary.”They further shared in the filing, “Since then, Nick has been unable to access money that is lawfully his own—to re-engage criminal defense counsel, or even for basic subsistence items from the jail commissary.” They also stated in the documents that the maturity date for the trust fund was based on when he turned 30, after which, around USD 558,000, came under his name. They further argued that “The Slayer Statute, the sole remaining basis for withholding this money, takes away what a person receives as a result of someone’s death. It does not implicate money that became Nick’s years earlier.”They also alleged in a second filing that was done on the same day to reply to Kanin’s objections that they had been promised access to the funds from the trust and that some amount would be transferred to Nick’s commissary account. However, “No deposit was ever made.
