NEW DELHI: BJP stalwart LK Advani and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia are among the prominent voters whose names figure in the list of 33 lakh people being issued notices over “logical discrepancies” in details furnished during the recent Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Delhi.“The notices arose from ‘logical discrepancies’ in the details furnished in their enumeration forms. Their names will be included in the final electoral rolls after due process of verification of facts and documents to be furnished by such voters,” a senior poll officer told PTI, confirming that notices had been issued to both Advani and Sisodia.“The process of verification of facts and documents is underway and validation of entries is being done accordingly,” the officer added.The 98-year-old Advani, a former deputy prime minister, his daughter Pratibha and daughter-in-law Geetika also received notices after their names could not be mapped to the 2002 SIR electoral roll. His son, Jayant, however, cleared the mapping exercise.All four are registered voters in the New Delhi assembly constituency.Meanwhile, in Sisodia’s family, his wife Seema and son Meer have also been issued notices.While the Election Commission has not cited a specific reason for the notice issued to the AAP leader, his son Meer’s notice mentions a “discrepancy in his parent’s name”, according to officials. The notice issued to his wife, Seema, cites a “mismatch in her own name”.
From politicians to bureaucrats, thousands face verification over ‘discrepancies’ in SIR enumeration forms
Many prominent voters, including senior government functionaries, bureaucrats and politicians, have been issued notices as part of the SIR exercise in Delhi.Chief minister Rekha Gupta, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and former Union minister Kapil Sibal have also received notices over similar discrepancies, officials said.Gupta’s entry was validated following verification of her documents, and her name has been cleared for inclusion in the final electoral roll of the Shalimar Bagh constituency, scheduled to be published on November 4.

According to the Delhi CEO’s office, notices are being issued to voters whose names could not be linked to the electoral roll prepared during the previous SIR, or whose details showed discrepancies when matched against the earlier roll.As part of the door-to-door verification exercise conducted between June 30 and August 17, every voter was required to submit an enumeration form.Of the around 97 lakh voters included in the draft electoral rolls, 33.13 lakh have been identified for notices over discrepancies in their enumeration forms. More than 31.63 lakh notices have been served so far.Most of the notices relate to the absence of corresponding records in the electoral roll prepared during the previous SIR in 2002.Voters have been asked to submit their replies along with supporting documents to the Electoral Registration Officers of their respective Assembly constituencies by October 29.
