Shruti Haasan has opened up about marriage, companionship and motherhood while discussing why she does not feel the need to follow conventional ideas about relationships. The actor and singer said she values having a partner but remains unconvinced about the need to formalize that bond through marriage.The actor opened up about her views during an appearance on Soha Ali Khan’s podcast. Shruti Haasan shared her approach to relationships and explained why the formal aspects of marriage do not appeal to her.
Shruti Haasan says she values companionship
Shruti Haasan said she does not oppose companionship or the idea of building a life with someone. However, she has always preferred making personal choices without feeling bound by conventional expectations.“I really like companionship. But, I have lived my whole life in a way of not fitting in a box. Weirdly, I am very traditional in some things and quite conservation in my approach to certain other things, but that’s only because no one forced me to come to that conclusion. I just feel that the paperwork with marriage, the lavish spending, showing, I feel like ‘Who are we doing this for?’”For Shruti Haasan, the commitment between two people matters more than the legal documentation associated with marriage. She said she enjoys the idea of partners choosing each other every day.
Shruti Haasan reveals she came close to marriage
The actor also disclosed that she had once come close to getting married. Despite reaching that stage, the experience did not change the way she viewed marriage or the importance of paperwork.“I enjoy that my partner and I pick each other everyday, but not because of the paperwork. That’s my fear, otherwise, not really. I came close to marriage and it didn’t really scare me that much when push came to shove. No shaming the big spenders, but that always bothers me. Give it to charity!…. I am open to adopt. I would really love to just be a mum, but I would also like to try it as an extension of myself in some biological way.”Shruti Haasan also expressed her desire to become a mother. She said she would consider adoption and is also open to having a biological child.
Shruti Haasan previously called marriage ‘scary’
This is not the first time Shruti Haasan has discussed her reservations about marriage. In an earlier conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia, she spoke about why the institution makes her uncomfortable.“I’m petrified of the idea of marriage, and I have no fear in saying that. I’ve worked so hard my whole life to be my own person that the idea of attaching it by a piece of paper feels really scary to me; that’s it,” she said.At the time, Shruti Haasan also made a distinction between marriage and the values associated with a committed relationship. She said loyalty and commitment remain important to her even if she does not believe a marriage certificate is necessary. “I’m capable of doing that by myself. I don’t require a piece of paper,” she added.

On the professional front, Shruti Haasan was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s 2025 film ‘Coolie’. The action drama featured Rajinikanth in the lead role and had an ensemble cast. The film received mixed reviews following its release.Shruti Haasan has also made a special appearance in the Ram Charan film ‘Peddi’, in the song ‘Hellallallo’.
