NEW DELHI: Two officials of the ministry of home affairs (MHA) were arrested on Tuesday following a tipoff by the ministry that they had reached out to an association, seeking illegal gratification in return for facilitating its pending registration under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 2010.MHA, for which the two accused were working as senior accountant and accountant, has initiated legal as well as departmental action in the matter. Both officials face suspension in view of the corruption allegations and their arrest.While one of the officials is presently posted in the MHA’s foreigners division, the other had earlier served in the same division. The latter is currently posted in a pay and accounts office. “Acting on specific information received by the MHA, the special cell of Delhi Police, in coordination with the central agencies, apprehended two govt officials in New Delhi on September 28, 2026,” the home ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

Stating that the MHA has zero tolerance against corruption, the ministry shared that the preliminary questioning of the two arrested officers indicated that they were in contact with certain associations for facilitating their registration and renewal in lieu of illegal gratification. “Further investigation is in progress,” it added.The ministry emphasised that human interface in FCRA applications had more or less been eliminated, with all FCRA-related services delivered online through the dedicated FCRA portal. “No intermediary, agent or individual is authorised to facilitate any FCRA service,” said an MHA spokesperson, in a clear message to associations in the process of getting themselves registered under FCRA or seeking prior permission to receive foreign contributions.
