India vs Uruguay Live Score: Blue Tigers face two-time world champions in daunting test against Darwin Núñez and Co.

India face two-time FIFA World Cup champions Uruguay in Kolkata on Tuesday, October 6, with the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan hosting the final match of the Blue Tigers’ September-October 2026 FIFA international window. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM IST, as Khalid Jamil’s side look to finish a demanding stretch of fixtures on a positive note after facing Panama and Brazil earlier in the break.

The difference between the two teams is considerable on paper, with Uruguay ranked 20th in the world and India sitting 138th. That 118-place gap leaves Uruguay as another substantial test for Jamil’s players after Brazil’s 4–0 victory at the same venue on Saturday.

India showed plenty of resilience against Panama in Bengaluru, drawing 1–1 after Ryan Williams opened the scoring and Omar Valencia equalised after half-time. The result was notable because it gave India their first result against a top-50 opponent, while the Blue Tigers followed that performance with the difficult Brazil assignment. Williams has been one of India’s most consistent players during the window, with Manvir Singh also producing a good showing against Brazil.

The goalkeeping department has provided less comfort, with both Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Prabhsukhan Singh Gill conceding soft goals against Brazil. Jamil is expected to demand another disciplined performance against a Uruguay side that combines physical strength with technical quality and a traditionally aggressive South American style.

Jamil knows exactly what his players are about to face and has stressed that India cannot simply sit back throughout the game.

“As I said, they are physically strong, so we have to match them. Tactically also, they are good,” the India head coach said during Monday’s pre-match press conference. “Depending on the situation, we must act. If required to defend, we will defend. If it is required to attack, we will go for it.”

Uruguay enter the match under Diego Forlán, who took over in August following Marcelo Bielsa’s departure after their group-stage exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Forlán’s first match ended in a 1–3 defeat against Japan, but Uruguay responded with a 4–1 victory over Korea Republic, with Núñez scoring twice.

Forlán brings a personal connection to India after spending six months with Mumbai City FC during the 2016 ISL season, scoring five goals in 12 appearances and sharing the dressing room with Sunil Chhetri. He has since returned almost a decade later as Uruguay’s head coach and has made clear that he does not intend to underestimate India.

“There’s never an easy game in football,” Forlán said. “We will try to do our best and enjoy our game tomorrow against India.”

After watching India against Brazil, Forlán also warned his players about giving Jamil’s side too much freedom.

“You could see some combinations, some long balls, some good players,” he said. “If you give them time and space, they can damage you, and they can play well. So you have to respect everybody.”

Uruguay will be without Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde because of a left-ankle injury, while Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Sebastián Cáceres and Brian Rodríguez are also unavailable. Emiliano Martínez has been called up in Valverde’s place.

India and Uruguay have faced each other only twice, with La Celeste winning both meetings. Uruguay won 3–1 at Eden Gardens in the 1982 Nehru Cup, despite Manas Bhattacharjee scoring for India, while a Uruguay B team won 3–0 in Kochi during the 2001 Millennium Super Soccer Cup.
