NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday thanked voters after the BJP secured victories in byelections to two assembly constituencies in West Bengal and a Lok Sabha seat in Assam, while its ally, the All India NR Congress, won a bypoll in Puducherry.The byelections were held on Tuesday, with votes counted on Friday.“Gratitude to the people for their continuous blessings! The Lok Sabha result of Nagaon (Assam) and Assembly results of Nandigram as well as Rejinagar (West Bengal) show yet again that the people have a deep-rooted connect with the good governance agenda of BJP-NDA,” PM Modi wrote on X.He congratulated the victorious BJP candidates and praised party workers for their hard work.“I also congratulate our valued NDA ally, the AINRC, for their win in Thattanchavady in Puducherry,” the prime minister added.PM Modi further expressed confidence that the mandate would give the BJP “added strength” as it works “tirelessly for the welfare of the people and to fulfil their aspirations for a brighter and more prosperous future.”In West Bengal, chief minister Suvendu Adhikari vacated Nandigram and chose to retain Bhabanipur, where he defeated then-chief minister Mamata Banerjee in April. For the bypoll, the BJP fielded Hasi Rani Rath, mother of Adhikari’s aide Chandranath Rath, who was shot dead days after the party won the state for the first time.Hasi Rani Rath secured 164,427 votes, defeating Congress candidate Milan Pradhan, who polled 41,674 votes, by a margin of 122,753 votes.In Rejinagar, the bypoll was necessitated by AJUP leader Humayun Kabir’s resignation from the seat after he chose to retain Naoda. The BJP fielded Shankharavh Sarkar, who secured 129,914 votes, while AJUP candidate Golam Nabi Azad, Kabir’s son, finished second with 54,098 votes.The BJP wrested Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha seat from the Congress, with its candidate Devasish Sharma leading by an unassailable margin of over 1.5 lakh votes as the final result was awaited. The constituency fell vacant in February after Pradyut Bordoloi switched from the Congress to the BJP.

Puducherry’s Thattanchavady seat fell vacant after chief minister and AINRC president N Rangasamy retained Mangalam, where he also contested and won. AINRC nominee Ashok Anand secured 13,358 votes, defeating Congress nominee E Vinayagam, who finished second with 4,876 votes.
