Director-choreographer Farah Khan recently got a glimpse into Madhuri Dixit and Dr Shriram Nene’s lavish Mumbai home, a sea-facing apartment perched on the 53rd floor of the Indiabulls Blu tower in Worli. Spanning 5,500 square feet, the residence features four bedrooms, a hall and a kitchen, with an interiors scheme that combines understated luxury with personal memorabilia and an impressive art collection. Paintings by celebrated artist MF Husain take centre stage, reflecting Madhuri’s special association with the legendary painter. As Farah stepped inside, she was greeted by a corridor adorned with Husain’s paintings, setting the tone for the art-filled home. The collection immediately caught her attention, prompting her to remark, “There must be at least over 30 Husains in this house, because, as we know, Madhuri was Husain sahab’s muse,” before adding jokingly, “Dr Nene is my muse.” Husain, one of India’s most celebrated modern artists, made headlines again in 2026 when his artwork ‘The Red Girl’ fetched a record Rs 65 crore at an auction in Mumbai. The entrance makes a statement of its own, with a nameplate bearing the family name “Dixit Nene” and an idol of Lord Ganesha depicted balancing on one foot.Inside, the living room features a restrained combination of off-white, beige and brown, with green accents breaking the neutral palette. Marble flooring and warm lighting enhance the interiors, lending the expansive space an elegant yet inviting feel.Rather than being designed as one large seating area, the living room has been thoughtfully divided into different sections. A dedicated dining space sits alongside a bar, while the main lounge features a round wooden table surrounded by sofas in shades of beige, brown and black. The arrangement creates a relaxed setting for family time as well as entertaining guests. The dining space stands out with its statement marble table, whose glossy surface showcases striking veins in ivory, beige, caramel, chocolate brown and black. Teal-green upholstered chairs bring a splash of colour to the setting, while a dramatic chandelier above the table adds to its visual appeal. The adjoining bar follows a similar design language, with wooden finishes and beige bar stools complementing the warm tones seen throughout the apartment.Art is woven into almost every corner of the home. Along with the extensive collection of Husain paintings, the apartment also houses a piano, adding another artistic element to the interiors. Impressed by the collection, Farah told Dr Nene, “You can open a Husain museum.”The home also has a dedicated room showcasing Madhuri’s professional milestones, with awards celebrating her achievements as an actor and dancer. The space offers a glimpse into her decades-long career and the recognition she has received for her work.Another corner of the apartment holds a more personal significance for the family. The dedicated television area features an artwork illustrating the journey of Madhuri and Dr Nene’s relationship. Explaining its significance, Dr Nene said, “This is by my friend Raghavan KK.” Pointing towards the artwork, he added, “This is our life journey.”A textured statement wall in the dining area further highlights the family’s fondness for art. A Husain painting takes pride of place, accompanied by a family photograph of Madhuri, Ram and their two sons, bringing a personal touch to the carefully curated interiors. As she explored the residence, Farah was particularly taken by how the space looked in natural light. Admiring the interiors, she told Madhuri, “This beautiful house looks even better in the day.”Madhuri lives in Mumbai with her husband, Dr Shriram Nene, and their two sons. Beyond its luxurious setting and impressive art collection, the apartment reflects the family’s shared interests and personal history, with carefully designed spaces that balance contemporary elegance with warmth and sentiment.
