Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana: Rise of a Legend’ has received a PG-13 rating in the US as the makers prepare for its worldwide release. The film’s reported runtime of over three hours is also drawing attention. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, the epic will unveil its international trailer in Bengaluru on October 15, ahead of its November 5, 2026 release.

Why the film got a PG-13 rating

According to the Hindustan Times, the Motion Picture Association (MPA) in the US has classified the film as PG-13. This means some scenes may not suit children below 13, and parents are advised to use caution. The rating is roughly similar to India’s U/A certificate, though the guidelines of the two systems are not the same.As per the MPA website, the rating has been given for intense action, violence and some graphic images showing blood. It gives an early hint of how the film will show the epic’s big battles and larger-than-life face-offs.

Runtime may go beyond three hours

The film’s length is also being discussed. IMAX lists the runtime as 3 hours and 15 minutes, which would take it well past the three-hour mark. Trade sources, however, say the English version could be shorter, at around 2 hours and 45 minutes. The makers have not confirmed the final duration yet.If the longer cut is locked, this will be Ranbir Kapoor’s second film to go beyond three hours. His earlier one was Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’, which ran for 3 hours and 21 minutes.

Second trailer and character posters

The team is now stepping up promotions with the film’s second trailer, due on October 15. The film has already been seen in television ads, and an earlier behind-the-scenes video featured interviews with the cast.Character posters have also been shared. They show Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Yash as Ravana, Arun Govil as Dashrath, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara and Anupam Kher as Jatayu. The Bengaluru event is being hosted by Prime Focus Studios and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. On Wednesday night, producer Namit Malhotra posted an official note. It read, “When we set out to make Ramayana, our dream was always to take one of India’s greatest stories to the world. Tomorrow, that dream takes another big step forward. Sony Pictures begins its international campaign for Ramayana, introducing this timeless story to audiences across the globe, many of whom will be discovering it for the very first time.”The note added, “For a film born in India to be presented to the world on the scale of a global cinematic event is something we as Indians are incredibly proud of.” It ended with “Our truth. Our history. From India to the world. Jai Shri Ram.” The note was signed by Namit, Nitesh Tiwari and Yash.

Two-part release plan

‘Ramayana’ is planned as a two-part epic, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. It is produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios along with DNEG, the visual effects company that has won eight Oscars, and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The first part will release worldwide in theatres on November 5, 2026, while the second is planned for Diwali 2027.In India, the film will come out in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, with IMAX screenings also planned.
