Cross-border narco-arms racket: SIT arrests 7th accused with ammo, pistol

JAMMU: An SIT investigating a cross-border narcotics and arms syndicate in Jammu arrested the seventh suspect last week, and seized one pistol (Px5 Storm Beretta, .30 bore), a magazine, and three live rounds, officials said Friday.Police identified the accused as Rohit Kumar alias Makhan from Raiyan Koltiyan in RS Pura. He was arrested on Jan 3. Based on his statements, the SIT raided his residence and recovered the arms and ammunition on Jan 7.“The accused is currently in police custody and is being interrogated further to establish his exact role, backward and forward linkages, and arms supply routes. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend remaining associates, trace financial and logistical channels and establish complete cross-border and interstate linkages,” an official said.On Dec 5, 2025, Jammu Police had busted the racket and arrested six accused, besides seizing around 5kg of heroin — estimated to be worth Rs 30 crore — and three pistols. A case was registered in this connection at Gandhi Nagar PS under relevant sections of NDPS Act and BNS.So far, seven accused — including drug peddlers, financial handlers, and jail-based facilitators — have been arrested and nearly 5kg of heroin, four pistols, live ammunition and a modified vehicle, have been seized, revealing cross-border linkages, officials said.
