Rajasthan Royals have appointed Riyan Parag as their new captain ahead of IPL 2026, marking a significant step in the young all-rounder’s journey with the franchise.Parag, who previously served as vice-captain and also led the side as stand-in skipper during IPL 2025, takes over the role following what the franchise described as a “considered and structured process” over the two months since the IPL auction. The decision came after detailed discussions involving players, coaches and team management to ensure alignment on the leadership direction and style as the Royals build towards the 2026 season and beyond.
A product of the Royals system, Parag is among the franchise’s longest-serving Indian players, having been part of the set-up since IPL 2019. Over the years, he has grown from a teenage recruit into a key member of the squad and an influential voice in the dressing room. His elevation to captain reflects both his development as a leader and his integral role within the team. The Royals also emphasised that Parag will be supported by a strong leadership group within the squad, with several experienced players forming the core of the team’s player leadership structure. At 24, Parag now steps into the full-time captaincy role with prior experience at the highest level and the backing of the franchise as Rajasthan Royals look to usher in a new era under his leadership.
