Renowned actor Prakash Raj has excitedly announced his portrayal of a dedicated Shiva devotee in the much-anticipated movie ‘Varanasi’ directed by SS Rajamouli, featuring the charming Mahesh Babu in the lead. This is a groundbreaking moment as it marks Raj’s first time working with Rajamouli, although he shares a familiar camaraderie with Babu from their past projects.

It’s official! Veteran actor Prakash Raj is part of SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated upcoming film ‘Varanasi’. The actor has confirmed being a part of the film and also divulged about his role. While speaking at a recent event, Prakash Raj disclosed his role in the Mahesh Babu starrer. “I am working in Rajamouli’s Varanasi. I play a Maha Shiva Bhakt in the film,” he said in a video shared on SSMB Empire on X.While there are reports that the actor could be portraying the father of the lead character, played by Mahesh Babu, there is no official confirmation yet. Interestingly, this is not the first time Prakash Raj has teamed up with Mahesh Babu. They have earlier shared the screen for multiple films, including ‘Okkadu’. But, this is certainly Prakash Raj’s first collaboration with SS Rajamouli.

Meanwhile, ‘Varanasi’ is gearing up for release next year. The makers will wrap up the entire shoot in the next four to five months, followed by nearly a year of post-production. ‘Varanasi’ features Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. The film will hit theatres worldwide on April 7, 2027. The team has been on a promotional spree recently; however, theft didn’t divulge much about the supporting cast. On the other hand, Prakash Raj also has Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial ‘Spirit’ in the pipeline. Recently, there were rumours that Prakash Raj walked out due to creative differences. However, following the speculations, Prakash Raj himself clarified that there is no such thing. “To all the toxic #Fakenews peddlers…. On #Spirit the movie. We have not even started shooting for my scenes… and you whatsup factories speculate stories.” He added, “Grow up and have a life #justaskin.” Mounted on a massive budget, ‘Spirit’ features Prabhas in the lead role.
