Daniel Radcliffe says the young actor cast as Harry Potter in HBO’s new television adaptation will rise to the occasion and could even outshine his own performance. In a recent interview, Radcliffe spoke about Dominic McLaughlin, the 11-year-old chosen to play the wizard in the long-form series based on J.K. Rowling’s novels. The eight-season project is set to begin airing in 2027, and Radcliffe urged fans to support the new cast rather than compare them to the original film trilogy. He shared his hopes for McLaughlin and made it clear he wants the spotlight on the new generation.
Harry Potter reboot casting and Daniel Radcliffe reaction
According to Moneycontrol, Radcliffe reflected on his early years in the role and said McLaughlin has the chance to do even better. “I’m sure Dominic is going to be better than me. I learned as I went. I look back on what I did now with a lot more kindness, and I find it less embarrassing now that I’m older,” he said during a YouTube interview. He acknowledged that playing Harry brings intense global attention. He also asked fans and the media to be mindful of how they treat the new cast. “When these kids got cast, there’s a whole thing around the internet, around the world, people being like, ‘We’ve got to look after these kids.’ If you mean that, if everyone really means what they are saying, then one of the things you can do for me is not ask about me and Rupert all the time.”
New Harry Potter series and legacy of the films
The original ‘Harry Potter’ films featured Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, with Emma Watson as Hermione Granger and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley. The story starts when Harry learns he is part of the wizarding world. It then follows his years at a magical school, where friendships grow and danger steadily closes in. The film franchise ran from 2001 through 2011 and became a worldwide cultural phenomenon. The new HBO adaptation plans to cover all seven books across separate seasons. McLaughlin’s casting has already drawn strong reactions from fans. Comparisons to Radcliffe began as soon as the news broke. Radcliffe’s message is clear. He wants the new actors to shape these roles in their own way and build their own legacy without constant ties to the past.
