About ‘Fast Forever’
‘Fast Forever’ will be the final release in the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise, and is the second part of the two-part finale that the production house had planned. The news was confirmed by Vin Diesel, who posted a photo of himself along with the late Paul Walker on his social media. He added the caption “No one said the road would be easy… but it’s ours. One that has defined us and become our legacy…And a legacy… lasts Forever. March 17th 2028! FAST FOREVER.” The production studio also posted a statement on their socials confirming the news as well. The film is set for the release date of March 17, 2028, leaving a lot of time for fans to catch up on the reruns of the older films. The first part of the two-part finale, titled ‘Fast X’ was released in 2023, making this one of the longest gaps between the release of the two films.
‘Fast X’ finale explained
‘Fast X’ ended on a lot of cliffhangers, which left fans wondering about a lot of things. In the film’s finale, Jakob, who is played by John Cena, sacrifices himself. He does so to save his long-lost brother, Dom, played by Vin Diesel, and his son, Little B, played by Leo Abelo Perry. Jason Momoa’s Dante is introduced as the main antagonist in the film series. Dom manages to save his son; however, Dante sets up a trap, and the two of them are cornered on a dam between two oil tankers. Just as all hope is lost, Roman, Han, Tej, and Ramsey arrive in a plane to save them. Just as they are about to rescue Dom, a missile is fired at the plane by Agent Aimes, who is a dirty cop and has been working with Dante all along. The plane crashes, leaving everyone on board’s fate unclear. Diesel’s character is forced to take extreme measures as he drives his car down the side of the dam, as the two oil tankers explode, leaving burning oil rushing towards him. Dom and his son make it to the water in time; however, the story does not end there. When they come to the surface for air, Dante, who had earlier set up bombs around the area, blows the trigger, and the screen cuts to black. A ticking timer is left playing in the background. In the end, it shows that Letty and Cipher trek through the Antarctic region as they escape the prison site. When they are near the ice, a submarine suddenly comes in. When the latch opens, it is revealed that Gisele, played by Gal Gadot, who last appeared in ‘Fast 6’, is alive and well. Not only that, but in one of the credit scenes, Dwayne Johnson also returns with his character Hobbs. He receives a call from Dante, who tells him that he will get his revenge after Hobbs killed his father in ‘Fast 5’. Hobbs tells him with full confidence, “I ain’t hard to find, you sumb****.”
‘Fast Forever’ delay
The 11th and final installment of the franchise was set to be released much earlier, but following the major drop in earnings for the last two films, it faced certain delays. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier that the final film is running with a limited budget of USD 200 million. This comes after ‘Fast X’ only managed to make USD 714 million in box office, after having a budget of a whopping USD 350 million. ‘Fast 9’ also had a low box office rate and stood at USD 726 million; however, the film also had limited screenings across the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ‘Fast 8’, on the other hand, earned USD 1.2 billion worldwide.
