‘God of War’ game creator open up about live-action remake: ‘It’s so bad in so many ways’
The highly anticipated ‘God of War’ live-action series has drawn criticism from original game creator David Jaffe. He expressed strong disappointment with the first look teasers, deeming them ‘terrible’ and poorly representing the iconic character Kratos. Jaffe specifically cited issues with the character’s introduction, expression, and attire, questioning the creative choices for the new adaptation.

‘God of War’ is one of the most popular game series, which is now being turned into a live-action series. This is not the first time a game franchise has been turned into a mass-produced series, such as ‘Resident Evil’ and ‘The Last of Us.’ While fans are elated at the news and look forward to what the series will bring, the creators of the original game do not seem happy about the first look. Here is what happened.

‘God of War’ game creators are unhappy with the live-action remake

David Jaffe is the mastermind behind the game ‘God of War’, which has been collecting fans ever since its initial release in 2005. Now, as the first look teasers of the live action have been shared, Jaffe posted a long video on his account explaining what he thought of it all. While talking about the first look teasers that were shared on the production house’s social media account, Jaffe commented, “I’m sure everybody’s trying real hard, [but] it’s so dumb, but let’s be incredibly clear, okay? Two things can be true. This can be a terrible image, and it is. It’s so bad in so many ways, which we’ll talk about in a moment.”Jaffe further criticized the creators of the show for not properly introducing the character, Kratos, to the audience. He called out the expressions, the choice of clothing, and other things, and cited that none of them sat well with who Kratos was in the game. “If you’re going to reveal, to most people, a brand new character that you hope is going to carry your series, for the first time, and they’ve never really seen this before, and this is the way you introduce them?”, Jaffe further commented. The picture that he is talking about shows Kratos, who is played by Ryan Hurst, crouching and watching with intent as his son aims his crossbow at something or someone afar.

About the ‘God of War’ TV series

The series has been confirmed for a minimum two-season run, and is said to be more focused on exploring Kratos and his son’s relationship with one another. It follows them on a long and perilous journey as they travel on to spread the ashes of Faye, Kratos’s wife and the mother of his child. Jaffe was one of the original creators of the game back in 2005, and stayed on board with it till 2007.
