Manav Gohil on 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge's four hours runtime, says Aditya Dhar was very strict: Yeh sab dikhaana zaroori hai'

‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ has already become one of the biggest successes of recent times. At a time when audience attention spans are very low, the Ranveer Singh starrer managed to keep the audiences engaged despite its long runtime. Manav Gohil, who played IB deputy director Bansal in ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, opened up about the film’s unusually long runtime. Both parts of the franchise are among the longest Bollywood films in recent years; the second part runs nearly four hours. In a recent interview, the actor explained that director Aditya Dhar was very particular about retaining all researched information, even if it made the film lengthy.

Manav Gohil on Aditya Dhar’s strict approach

In an interview with News 18, Manav Gohil said Aditya Dhar refused to compromise on details. He shared, “There’s so much information in the film. Aditya was very strict about not getting rid of any detail. What we had at hand was hardcore research-based information. He said, ‘Yeh sab dikhaana zaroori hai. He didn’t compromise on it. He was so tuned in all the way down to the minutest nitty-gritties of the storytelling. And people loved all of it.” The actor admitted the team felt they had shot a lot, but Aditya was firm about keeping everything.

Manav Gohil had no prior knowledge of the sequel

During the same interaction, Gohil revealed he was not told about a second part until much later. He said, “We all felt ki humne bahot zyada shoot kar liya hai. Hum shoot kiye hi ja rahe the, kiye hi ja rahe the (laughs). We knew that it was going to turn out to be a long film but we didn’t anticipate that it will be divided into two parts. We came to know of it when we were about to release the first film. That’s when we got a sense and were officially told that Dhurandhar: The Revenge will also be released.Gohil revealed that he found out about the sequel only when the first film was nearing release.

Family’s reaction to ‘Dhurandhar’

Manav Gohil also opened up about how his family, especially his wife and actress Shweta Kawatra, reacted to ‘Dhurandhar’. Gohil said, “It was so difficult to watch it with Shweta. She had so many questions to ask me. I had to tell her that she needs to let me watch the film first for me to understand and answer all her questions.” He joked that after the film’s release, he suddenly became “important” for his family, with everyone asking him about the story during dinners.

Manav Gohil on screen time feedback

The actor also addressed the common complaint from fans about his limited screen time. He laughed and said, “Mujhe bhi aisa hi laga ki mera screen time kam kyun hai (laughs). And though people reacted very sweetly to my scenes and they told me that they loved my performance, they asked me, aur bhi hai kya?” (“I also felt the same like, why is my screen time so less? (laughs). And though people reacted very sweetly to my scenes and said they loved my performance, they kept asking, ‘Is there more?’”)Despite the short role, his performance as IB deputy director Bansal was appreciated by audiences. The movie stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal and many others in lead roles.
