Famed actress Charlize Theron has been through a lot over the course of her life. In a recent interview, the star opened up about her childhood on rare occasions, and even recalled what happened that made her mother shoot her father.

While talking to The New York Times, the actor was quite open and candid, talking about everything that has happened over the past couple of years. In a rare and candid piece, while talking about her upbringing, she opened up about how, in 1992, her mother shot her father in order to save her life.Giving a detailed account of what had happened, the actress shared, “I think these things should be talked about because it makes other people not feel alone,” further adding, “I never knew about a story like that. When this happened to us, I thought we were the only people. I’m not haunted by this stuff anymore.”Theron then detailed the matter, citing that she and her mother, Gerda Jacoba Aletta Martiz, had gone out to spend some time together at the movies. Afterwards, they had visited an uncle’s home, and she revealed that when she rushed into the bathroom without announcing herself, Charles Theron was livid. “He took that as me being rude, because I didn’t stop and say hello to everybody,” the 50-year-old added.She had been barely 15 at the time, and had known that her father was extremely angry at her. When they had gone home, she had gone straight to her room and had asked her mother to tell him that she was already asleep. “I went into my room, I turned my lights off, and I was scared. My window faced the driveway, and I could tell the level of anger, frustration, or unhappiness by the way he drove in,” she added.The actress shared that her father broke into the house and had just started shooting around. Her mother got her gun, and the two of them hid in Charlize’s room, though he started shooting at them through the door itself. Her mother then used her weapon to defend themselves, and ended up fatally shooting her father before he could get his hands on more weapons.
How Charlize Theron and her mother dealt with the entire thing
The ‘Atomic Bomb’ actress revealed that her mother had moved on from the incident at the time, or was just pretending, until later, as per the actress, therapy was not a thing of their time. “We didn’t have therapists around, so in her head the best therapy was, ‘We’ve got to move on,’” she quipped.On the work front, Theron will next appear on ‘Apex’, an upcoming thriller film set to be released on Netflix worldwide on April 24. The project has been directed by Baltasar Kormákur and follows the story of a woman who navigates through the Australian terrain and forests, with a man named Taron Egerton stalking her and following her around. The OTT film also stars Eric Bana, Caitlin Stasey, Bessie Holland, and Zac Garred, amongst many other people.
