Travis Head heaped rich praise on opening partner Abhishek Sharma, calling him one of the best spin-hitters he has ever seen, after Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a stunning record chase against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede. The much-talked-about ‘Travishek’ duo once again lived up to its billing, laying the platform for SRH’s remarkable six-wicket win in a chase of 244. Head and Abhishek came out with clear intent, attacking from the outset and putting MI under pressure during the Powerplay with a fearless opening stand.
Reflecting on their growing chemistry, Head underlined how their understanding at the top makes things simple, especially when spin is introduced.“I know that if spin comes on, I just give him the strike. I probably haven’t played with a better spin-hitting batter ever. I think he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen in terms of ball-striking against spin. I know in the Powerplay, we saw again in this game that teams have started to go off pace against us. So, it’s about getting him on strike and watching him go about his work. He puts teams under immense pressure. It’s a great partnership; we don’t have to talk too much,” Head said on JioStar.SRH’s chase was driven by a collective effort. Head set the tone with a quickfire 76, while Abhishek continued his aggressive approach. Heinrich Klaasen then ensured there were no late hiccups, finishing unbeaten to guide the side to the highest successful chase at the venue.Head also reflected on the broader team effort and the challenge of sustaining consistency in a tournament like the IPL, especially as SRH continue their strong run away from home.“It’s nice to contribute. Two wins on the road are obviously really important as well. It’s not often you win five games in a row in the IPL. So, we’re in a good space. It’s a hard competition to be in. When it’s your night, it’s your night. You’re not expected to score runs every game and win games every time. If you can win two or three games in this competition by yourself, you go a long way towards getting seven to eight wins and playing in the Playoffs. Abhi (Abhishek Sharma) has done that a couple of times, Ishan and Klaasen have been incredible, and our bowlers have been good,” he added.Earlier, MI had posted a daunting 243 for 5, powered by a brilliant century from Ryan Rickelton. However, it wasn’t enough to stop SRH’s relentless batting unit, as the visitors completed one of the most memorable chases of the season.
