In West Bengal’s Samserganj, TMC’s Nur Alam secured 61,918 total votes, defeating BJP’s Sasti Charan Ghosh by 7,587 votes. In 2026, Samserganj will see TMC’s Nur Alam contest against BJP’s Sasti Charan Ghosh and Congress’s Nazme Alam.Samserganj is a general constituency in Murshidabad district, part of the Maldaha Dakshin Lok Sabha seat. Despite the 2011 census showing a high urban ratio, Samserganj is a predominantly Muslim-majority constituency. It gained national attention in 2021 when its election was postponed due to the death of a candidate and voting was held later on 30 September 2021, making it one of the last constituencies to declare results that election cycle. In 2016, TMC’s Amirul Islam narrowly defeated CPI(M)’s Touab Ali by just 1,780 votes, with Congress absent from the contest. In 2021, TMC’s Amirul Islam retained the seat but with a greatly increased majority: he won with just over 51 per cent of the vote, defeating Congress’s Zaidur Rahaman in second place and BJP’s Milan Ghosh a distant third. For 2026, TMC fields Nur Alam, a new candidate, while BJP fields Sasti Charan Ghosh and Congress counters with Nazme Alam. The strong TMC-Muslim consolidation visible in 2021 makes this a likely TMC hold.
