AIADMK‘s Palanisamy S emerges victorious, securing 73033 votes, against TVK’s Vijay R Baranibalaaji by a margin of 285 votes.The Tirukkoyilur constituency witnessed a significant electoral shift in the 2026 Assembly elections. The DMK fielded Pon Gauthamsigamani, the son of veteran leader K Ponmudy, seeking to retain the family’s long-standing influence. He was challenged by Palanisamy S of the AIADMK, who campaigned aggressively to regain the segment. The race was further diversified by Hemarajan K of the NTK and a strong focus on rural infrastructure, while TVK’s Vijay Baranibalaaji also made inroads by targeting young voters. In the 2021 election, K Ponmudy (DMK) secured a massive victory with 110,980 votes (56.56% vote share), defeating Vat Kalivaradhan (BJP) by a margin of 59,680 votes. In the 2016 election, K Ponmudy (DMK) had won with 93,837 votes (50.4% vote share), defeating Gothandaraman G (AIADMK) by 41,057 votes. Voter turnout reached 88.47%, a notable hike from the 76.27% in 2021. This surge is largely attributed to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive, which cleansed the rolls. Tirukkoyilur (Assembly constituency No. 76) is a general segment in the Villupuram district. Known for its historical temples and agrarian economy, it remains a vital stronghold for the DMK and a key indicator of political trends in northern Tamil Nadu. The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure. The electoral battle was primarily between the DMK-led alliance, including the INC and other parties, headed by MK Stalin and the AIADMK-led alliance, headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with the BJP and other parties. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking actor Vijay’s political debut as a third force across all 234 constituencies.
