'Main Vaapas Aaunga’ actor Vedang Raina sings for his character just like Kishor Kumar: ‘I want to create my own music’

In a hark back to the days of the singing star Kishore Kumar, Vedang Raina is heard and seen singing in Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ and that too under the stewardship of A R Rahman. Speaking about the same in an exclusive interaction with us, Vedang says, “I guess I am blessed.”“In Main Vaapas Aaunga, I got to work with one of the directors on my wishlist(Imtiaz Ali). I also get to sing for my own character, and that too for Rahman Sir,” adds the actor who sang ‘Maskara’ in the movie.

Does Vedang Raina hope to usher in the singing-star era of Kishore Kumar?

“I don’t know how much I can bring back, but I definitely want to pursue my singing. More than that, I want to create my own music. I have a real passion for that, and I’m simultaneously going to work on that craft as well. Maybe someday I’ll end up releasing something as well,” ‘Jigra’ fame star expresses.Like Kishore Kumar, Vedang hopes to sing for his own characters that he plays. He shared, “Hopefully, I will get opportunities to sing in the films that I feature in. And maybe one day I can release an album. I performed in school and college quite a bit. I did some gigs here and there.”This is not the first song Vedang sang for a film. In Karan Johar’s ‘Jigra,’ he sang the old Kishore Kumar classic ‘Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka.’ “That was different,” he recalls, adding, “I didn’t get to lip-sync Phoolon ka taaron ka in Jigra. But here in Main Vaapas Aaunga, I get to sing for my character. It’s a big hill.”
