Over the past few years, the issue of Bollywood stars’ entourage costs has become a hot topic of discussion. Several industry insiders have pointed out that the growing expense of providing multiple vanity vans on set adds to a film’s overall budget without really adding any value. In the middle of this ongoing debate, choreographer Shabina Khan offered a refreshing take, sharing that working with Salman Khan is a completely different experience. She revealed that the superstar does not let his entourage speak on his behalf and ensures the entire crew is well fed on set.
Salman Khan speaks to everyone on set directly
In a conversation with Hindi Rush, Shabina revealed that most top actors these days are surrounded by teams of at least 15 people at all times. Anyone on set who wishes to speak to the actor is expected to go through the team first. “Actors these days walk around with large teams and unless you have made a name for yourself, you will not be allowed to speak to the actor directly. The team will say, ‘You tell us what you want to say and we will convey it,’” she said, adding, “It’s different with Salman because he will sit with everyone, and then everyone on his set follows suit. He will speak to everyone.”
Salman Khan ensures everyone on set is well fed
When asked to talk more about the food on Khan’s set, Shabina had nothing but praise for it, saying it is truly extraordinary. She shared that Salman personally makes sure every single person on set is properly fed. This stands in stark contrast to many other film sets, where a clear hierarchy exists regarding food. Daily wagers such as lightmen and spot boys are often served different and lesser quality food, while actors and heads of departments tend to receive much better meals.
Salman Khan’s generosity on the sets of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo ‘
Shabina also talked about her time working with Salman on ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’. She shared that Rajshri Productions does not allow non-vegetarian food on set, but Salman made sure no one went without it. He would personally invite everyone to his bungalow on set to eat. “Non-veg food is not allowed on the Rajshri set. Everyone knows that. So Salman would really think about those people. Salman would have his own bungalow on the set, and he would call everyone there to eat,” she shared and added, “You know you are going to get 7-star food. He would feed the assistants, dancers, junior artistes, everyone.”
Salman Khan brings a kitchen van to the set
She further revealed that Salman has now taken things a step further by bringing a full kitchen van to the set, complete with a fixed menu. But what makes it even more special is that if anyone wants something that is not on the menu, it is cooked fresh for them on the spot. “Now, he brings a Being Human van on the set. It’s a complete kitchen. There’s a full menu there, but if you want to eat anything outside of the menu, that will be cooked for you,” she said.
