Mercedes-Benz India has launched the 2026 S-Class, introducing the S 450e plug-in hybrid (PHEV) as the flagship luxury sedan’s newest variant. Bookings for the new Mercedes-Benz S 450e have opened today, while customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. The S 450e Launch Edition is priced at Rs 2.20 crore, ex-showroom, while the more exclusive MANUFAKTUR Edition starts at Rs 2.38 crore, ex-showroom.Here’s a quick look at everything that you need to know about the model.

2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Key details

Visually, the updated S-Class gets subtle changes. The front fascia now features new headlamps with twin three-pointed-star LED signatures. The lighting technology is said to be capable of projecting light up to 600 metres ahead. Mercedes-Benz has also enlarged the illuminated radiator grille by around 20 percent.The refreshed S-Class gets a redesigned front end featuring a larger illuminated grille and the rear also receives updated tail lamps carrying a similar star-inspired design. Revised bumper detailing and new alloy wheel designs complete the exterior updates.

2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Cabin and tech

Inside, the S-Class introduces Mercedes-Benz’s latest MB.OS operating system. The luxury sedan comes equipped with the MBUX Superscreen, the newest generation of the MBUX infotainment system, AI-powered “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant and Google Maps-based navigation. It comes standard with AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering. The latter is offered with a standard 4.5-degree setup and can be upgraded to 10 degrees, significantly reducing the turning circle.

2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class: Powertrain

At the heart of the new S 450e is a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor. Transmission is handled by a 9-speed automatic transmission. The petrol engine alone produces 326 hp and 540 Nm, while the electric motor contributes 163 hp and 440 Nm. Together, the system develops a combined output of 435 hp and 680 Nm.One of the biggest highlights of the new S-Class is its ability to travel up to 115 km in pure electric mode on the WLTP cycle. Mercedes-Benz claims this allows most daily city commutes to be completed without using the combustion engine. The luxury sedan is equipped with a 22 kWh battery pack and supports DC fast charging of up to 60 kW. The company also claims a WLTP-certified combined fuel efficiency of 32.33 kmpl.The S 450e can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 5.7 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph.
