Ranvir Shorey has always been driven by a deep-seated fear of being typecast, and this fear has shaped the roles he chooses to take on. Over the years, the actor has made a conscious effort to step out of his comfort zone, building a diverse body of work that spans mainstream hits like ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Singh Is Kinng’, and ‘Lakshya’; indie gems such as ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’, ‘Bheja Fry’, ‘Mithya’, ‘A Death in the Gunj’, and ‘Sonchiriya’; and popular OTT series like ‘Metro Park’, ‘Sunflower’, and ‘Tabbar’. This range has firmly established him as one of the most versatile actors in the industry.
Ranvir Shorey on always trying something new
Talking to PTI, Ranvir said, “I’ve tried never to repeat parts because I grew up on the fringes of the filming business. The word ‘typecasting’ has haunted me from the time I became an actor, and that has influenced a lot of the choices that I’ve made. So, each time, I try to do something new and completely different. That’s what the endeavour is”.
Ranvir Shorey’s co-star Paramvir Cheema echoes similar fears
The actor is currently starring in the series ‘Pyramid Scheme’, a show about ambition, greed, and the risky world of making quick money. His co-star Paramvir Cheema, who also appears in the show, spoke about how he has always tried to avoid getting stuck playing the same kind of roles. “The fear of repeating myself would haunt me. I would mostly be offered Punjabi characters, silent parts. For instance, in case of ‘Border 2’, I had to convince the director (Anurag Singh) to don’t give me a character where I’ve to wear a pagri (turban), and that I can speak Haryanvi. I am glad he trusted me,” said Cheema, known for his work in ‘Border 2’, ‘Black Warrant’, and ‘Chamak’.
Paramvir Cheema calls ‘Pyramid Scheme’ a breakthrough role
He also talked about how ‘Pyramid Scheme’ felt like a big opportunity for him. “I had done ‘Sapne vs Everyone’, which was on YouTube, in which I played a boy from Delhi. When ‘The Pyramid Scheme’ came to me, I was like, ‘This will be a breakthrough role,’ and I knew I had to give my best, and I did,” he added.
