Ahead of the release of Christopher Nolan’s latest project, ‘The Odyssey’, the film has sparked quite a lot of debate and controversy online. One of the biggest discourses online is about the kind of dialogues the film is using. While the storyline, based on Homer’s Greek classic, is set around the 8th or 7th century BC, Most of the trailers show that the characters in the film are talking in an American accent and are using modern day English dialogues. Although many criticized the film for not being accurate in accordance to the book, the director has defended his creative choice in one of his latest interviews. Christopher Nolan defends his creative choices with ‘The Odyssey’
Christopher Nolan is actively defending his choice to use modern day English language in most of the dialogs for his next big project. While talking to the Los Angeles Times about the matter, Nolan said that he consciously made the creative choice while making the film and it was not a mistake. Giving the reasoning behind his choice Nolan shared that He wanted to use a language that was not intellectually connected to storyline but something that people could connect on emotionally.He further shared, “I was maybe being naïve, it might bite me on the ass, but I wanted an earthy narrative. To me it was a no-brainer.”This is not the only thing that the director has thoroughly thought through about the film. While talking to Time magazine earlier this year, the star shared details about how many of the materials, including the bronze daggers , have been made to accurately capture what the weapons would have been like at the time. He even detailed how the props were made to be darker to provide more accuracy.He also added a defense for casting rapper Travis Scott in ‘The Odyssey’ as the bard. He shared, “I cast him because I wanted to nod towards the idea that this story has been handed down as oral poetry, which is analogous to rap.”

Christopher Nolan’s next big project is set to release on July 17, and follows King Odysseus’s journey across 10 perilous years to travel back home to his wife and son after the Trojan War, encountering all kinds of challenges, both natural and supernatural, as the goddess of warfare, Athena, watches over him. Matt Damon stars in the leading role, while Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and many others join the cast in titular roles.
