'Losing consciousness': AISA activists' health worsens on Day 20 of hunger strike at Jantar Mantar

NEW DELHI: Three activists on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar have seen their health deteriorate further on the 20th day of their protest. Doctors have also advised immediate hospitalisation for one of them due to severe hypoglycaemia.In a statement, AISA said Neha’s blood sugar level has fallen to a critically low level, with doctors advising her to end the fast and get admitted before her condition worsens. Aameen has developed very high uric acid levels and has lost nearly 14 per cent of his body weight, while Manish has lost over 10 kg and has been on the verge of losing consciousness, requiring constant support even for basic activities.

Political support grows for protest

The survivor of the 2017 Unnao rape case visited the protest site on Friday to express solidarity, saying AISA activists had stood by her when she was denied justice.Congress leader Pawan Khera, NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule, former Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala, Digvijay Chautala and Congress leader Rajendra Pal Gautam also visited the site and expressed solidarity.The AISA activists are part of the broader Cockroach Janta Party-led agitation at Jantar Mantar, where activist Sonam Wangchuk is also on an indefinite hunger strike. The protesters are demanding action over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a judicial probe and wider education reforms.
