On July 23, the Affleck family mourned the loss of their maatriarch, Chris Anne Affleck as they shared an obituary in the Boston Globe newspaper. The family confirmed the news that she had left for her heavenly abode on June 2. Six months prior, the family had confirmed that she had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was receiving treatment. A statement from the obituary read that one of Anne’s “greatest wish after her diagnosis, however, was to live to see her grandson graduate high school. She did so, attending with her family on May 31, 2026. She died peacefully, in her sleep, two days later.”The obituary also mentioned how her grandchildren, Indiana, Violet, Atticus, Fin and Sam were “the animating force of her last two decades.”

Chris Anne Affleck led her own successful life, and was an accomplished teacher during her time. She was born in New York City in December 1942, and was a Harvard University graduate. For around 35 years, she worked as a public school teacher up until 2008, when she officially retired from the work force. She was also a known social advocate during her tenure, and was even one of the first and original freedom riders who went into the segregated Southern United States during the 1960s.She and Timothy Affleck welcomed Ben Affleck in 1972, and his brother, Casey Affleck in 1975. In an old interview, the ‘Batman’ actor had shared some details about his mother’s career with The Hollywood Reporter. At the time he had stated that, “My mother taught public school, went to Harvard and then got her master’s there and taught fifth and sixth grade in a public schoo. My dad had a more working-class lifestyle. He didn’t go to college. He was an auto mechanic and a bartender and a janitor at Harvard.”Anne was one of her sons biggest supporters. When Ben showed interest in acting, she was the one who connected him to former Harvard roommate and casting director Patty Collins. She was the reason behind his start in the acting industry in commercials and small TV movies. When Ben Affleck and Matt Damon brought their mothers to the Oscars after getting nominated for ‘Good Will Hunting’, there were a lot of comments made about the matter. Talking to Vanity Fair in another interview, the ‘Paycheck’ actor had commented, “We were sitting next to our moms and we won, and we kind of hugged our moms. I remember how everyone had made such a big thing out of it as if this was such a novelty. I remember thinking, being insecure, like, ‘Why?
