Months after ‘Jana Nayagan’ became the centre of one of Tamil cinema’s biggest piracy cases, editor Pradeep E Ragav has spoken about the emotional toll the incident has taken on him. The editor said the leak continues to haunt him despite the arrests made by the authorities. His comments come after the film eventually made its theatrical release following months of delays caused by certification issues and the widespread circulation of its pirated version online.

In an interview with Harish Ram, Pradeep E Ragav reflected on the damage caused by the leak and the efforts of the hundreds of people who worked on the film. “I still haven’t gotten over the incident. There are war ants; they will kill even an animal. I see this incident like that. Those who leaked are in jail and there is no law to find and punish the people who watched it through piracy. If it was their own work, they wouldn’t do this. More than money, thousands of people were involved,” he said. The editor’s remarks come after the film was leaked online on April 9, months before its theatrical release. According to the investigation, the film’s makers have taken legal action against the people who were behind the sharing of the pirated version. The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing has arrested several people in connection with the case. Piracy case led to legal action and disciplinary proceedings The online leak led to a major investigation, with authorities tracing the breach to a freelance assistant editor who allegedly copied the film’s footage from an editing facility and distributed it through piracy networks. The Madras High Court later issued an interim order directing internet service providers and cable operators not to distribute the uncertified version of the film. Pradeep E Ragav also faced disciplinary action from the Southern India Film Editors Association for engaging non-members as assistants, although the association clarified that he was not directly responsible for the leak. After submitting an apology, he was permitted to continue his professional work.
