NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday granted one-year extensions to cabinet secretary TV Somanathan and home secretary Govind Mohan, ahead of the completion of their original two-year tenures later this month.The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet extended Mohan’s tenure till August 23, 2027, and Somanathan’s till August 30, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier in both cases.Mohan is a 1989-batch IAS officer of the Sikkim cadre. He took charge as home secretary on August 23, 2024, succeeding Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who is now serving as the governor of Manipur.Somanathan, a 1987-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, has been serving as cabinet secretary since August 30, 2024. He succeeded Raji Gauba, the longest-serving cabinet secretary who held the post for five years.
