Since Wednesday, actor Ranvir Shorey has been at the centre of a wave of online criticism that shows no signs of easing. It all began with a fun, casual reel featuring him grooving alongside his ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla 2’ co-stars Anupam Kher, Boman Irani and Parveen Dabas. This video unexpectedly went viral, racking up millions of views on Instagram.
Ranvir Shorey’s crude reply sparks misogyny accusations
An X user reposted the video with a sarcastic caption aimed at the actor. Ranvir responded with a crude comment, which quickly drew backlash online. Since the profile had a woman’s display picture, several users accused him of being misogynistic.Ranvir Shorey defends his replyNow, talking to Hindustan Times, the actor said, “There is no such reply on my timeline. I reply to trolls in the language they speak in, and I will not be apologetic about it. The user you are mentioning is a known toxic and abusive account, whose real gender and age are unknown to me. The kind of language that account uses is more important than if the profile picture is of a girl or boy. If girls can be gutter mouthed, then they should be ready to hear the same kind of replies too”.
Controversy expands into personal allegations against Ranvir Shorey
The situation grew far bigger than the original argument, as people started digging into Shorey’s personal life and making claims against him. Some even said his marriage to actor Konkona Sen Sharma ended because of his behaviour.Ranvir Shorey dismisses allegations, says he’s “done with this episode”Another user claimed to have witnessed Ranvir behaving rudely with a movie theatre staffer over a popcorn bucket. Brushing off such allegations as “simply haters,” Shorey maintains he has never been the one to start such behaviour, “Those are simply haters. This entire incident was triggered by the hate towards just a funny 15 second reel that I made with the KKG team that went hugely viral! I have never misbehaved with anyone unless they have misbehaved with me first. And I am under no moral, ethical or legal obligation to take any abuse or hate lying down. From men or women. I am done with this episode. I would rather think about the next reel.”
