After ‘Chennai Love Story’, actor Kiran Abbavaram is set to enter the world of mythology with his upcoming film ‘Indraputra’. The project has now been titled and will be directed by Srikanth Puppala.Principal photography is expected to begin in October. The project is currently in its pre-production phase. The makers are also planning to build the story as the first chapter of a much larger mythological universe.
Kiran Abbavaram takes on a new genre
‘Indraputra’ will see Kiran Abbavaram take on a mythology-based character. The story is rooted in the battle between dharma and adharma.According to Variety, the role will demand both emotional range and physical transformation from the actor.In a chat with the same portal, Kiran Abbavaram said the project is unlike the films he has previously worked on.“‘Indraputra’ is very different and unconventional from anything I have done before,” Abbavaram said.“The moment I heard the story, I realized it was a film that would stimulate me further as an actor and it very well aligns with my cinematic vision. The role requires both emotional depth and physical changes, and I am excited to bring this character to life.”The film marks another new direction for Kiran Abbavaram. He made his acting debut with the 2019 romantic comedy ‘Raja Vaaru Rani Gaaru’.
Srikanth Puppala makes directorial debut
‘Indraputra’ will mark Srikanth Puppala’s debut as a feature film director. Srikanth has worked as the first assistant director to Rishab Shetty on ‘Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1’.Srikanth Puppala told Variety that the upcoming film has been a long-standing dream for him.He said, “‘Indraputra’ is a dream that has been close to my heart for a very long time. Our mythology is filled with timeless stories, and with this film, we aim to present one such epic on a scale that is both visually spectacular and emotionally relevant to the audiences across the country. Having Kiran Abbavaram lead this journey is truly exciting, as he brings sincerity, intensity, and conviction to the character.“
Shooting begins in October
Reports say the film is currently being prepared for production. Principal photography is scheduled to commence in October. Details about the supporting cast and technical crew are expected to be announced soon. The makers have not yet revealed a release date.Meanwhile, Kiran Abbavaram was recently seen in ‘Chennai Love Story’. The Telugu romantic drama, directed by Ravi Namburii, released in theatres on July 24, 2026. Sri Gouri Priya stars opposite him in the film.
