Sunny Deol’s historical drama ‘Batwara 1947’ has turned out to be a major disappointment at the domestic box office. The Partition saga, which arrived with considerable expectations riding on Sunny Deol’s return to the period-drama space, has failed to gain traction with audiences. Despite being allotted a large number of shows, ‘Batwara 1947’ has been unable to generate the momentum required for a strong theatrical run, leaving its hefty budget under considerable pressure.According to Sacnilk, the film opened with Rs 5.75 crore on Friday. It witnessed a major jump on Saturday, collecting Rs 13.50 crore. However, Sunday brought a decline, with the film earning Rs 7.25 crore from fewer shows. This was around 22 percent lower than its Saturday collection.The film collected Rs 2 crore on Monday before recording a marginal improvement on Tuesday. Its day-five earnings stood at Rs 2.25 crore, marking a 12.5 percent increase over Monday. The slight boost came despite the film being screened across 6,608 shows, with discounted ticket prices at several multiplexes on Tuesday potentially helping its collections.On Wednesday, the film saw a further drop and made less than Rs 2 crore. It saw a drop of 16 percent and made rs 1.4 crore. The total collection of the film in India now stands at Rs 32.15 crore net.Mounted on a reported budget of Rs 120 crore, ‘Batwara 1947’ needed a sustained run at the box office to recover its investment. However, the film has recovered only about 25 percent of its reported budget.The road ahead looks particularly difficult for the Sunny Deol starrer. Even if the film manages to add another Rs 10 crore to its final theatrical tally, it could still end its run with losses of around Rs 80 crore.
