Padikkal, who was batting on 91, needed only a few deliveries to reach three figures.He hit Prabath Jayasuriya for two consecutive boundaries before taking a single to complete his century.The hundred is Padikkal’s second century in Test cricket.After reaching the milestone, Padikkal removed his helmet as his teammates in the dressing room applauded his effort.

Padikkal was given two early reprieves in his innings. He was dropped on 0 and 1, but made Sri Lanka pay for those missed opportunities.The century comes after his impressive 167 in Galle, where India beat Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the opening Test.
